The marquee signing who gives Caja Rural instant credibility on the sport's biggest stage. Cast off by Movistar at the end of 2025, the Colombian took a lifeline with the Spanish ProTeam and has repaid it with 13 top-10s and near-misses in Oman, Hungary and the Ronde van Limburg this season. At his third Tour — his first since 2019 — he is by far the squad's most experienced man and their best shot at a fairy-tale stage win.

Palmarès

  • Tour de France 2× stage winner + yellow jersey (2018)
  • Giro d'Italia 5× stage winner (2017, 2019)
  • Giro d'Italia points classification (2017)
  • 2× UCI Track World Champion, omnium (2015, 2016)
  • Paris–Tours winner (2016)
Cut-out factHe won the opening stage of the 2018 Tour on debut and pulled on the yellow jersey — only the second Colombian ever to wear it, and the first to win it in a sprint.
