The elder statesman of the squad at 35, Dillier is the man the Roodhoofts trust to read the race. A Paris–Roubaix runner-up behind Peter Sagan in 2018 and a Giro stage winner, the Swiss veteran long ago traded personal ambition for the role of the world's most reliable bodyguard to Van der Poel and Philipsen. When a break needs chasing at kilometre zero, it is invariably Dillier's shoulders on the front.

Palmarès

  • 2nd Paris–Roubaix (2018)
  • Giro d'Italia stage winner (2017)
  • Swiss national road race champion (2017, 2021)
  • UCI Team Time Trial World Champion with BMC (2014, 2015)
Cut-out factHe is famous for riding nearly 200km on the front of Milan–San Remo year after year in service of Van der Poel — earning him cult status as the race's unofficial pace-making machine.
