Nine years on from his fairy-tale 2017 Tour — two mountain-stage wins and the polka-dot jersey — 'Wawa' remains France's great romantic attacker. A crash in February wrecked the first half of his 2026 season, but the 34-year-old Breton starts his 12th Tour with a free role to raid the medium mountains for a team hunting stages, not GC.

Palmarès

  • Tour de France mountains classification winner (2017)
  • 2x Tour de France stage winner — Foix and Col d'Izoard (2017)
  • 2x Vuelta a España stage winner (2013)
  • French national road race champion (2019)
  • GP Miguel Induráin winner (2022)
  • Tour de France super-combativity award (2017)
Cut-out factBoth of his 2017 Tour stage wins came while wearing the polka-dot jersey — including on Bastille Day in Foix, France's first 14 July Tour stage win since 2005.
